20 OCT — 20 NOV

Curated by Daniela Arriado and Vanina Saracino

Building upon SCB 2019’s edition Ecologies – Lost, Found and Continued, which focused on the potential of post-anthropocentric worldmaking as a response to man-made environmental breakdown, SCB 2022’s edition Other Minds interrogates and challenges the very notion of human, embracing instead the more-than-human—that which envelopes and overcomes the human by stressing the strong and necessary connections among all living and non-living matter.

As a departure point to its narrative, the biennial focuses upon the entangled issue of consciousness—a constantly morphing notion that has been at the center of the philosophical inquiry for centuries, and whose definition and appliance has changed massively during the course of history, also as a consequence of new scientific findings. Other Minds aims at diving into the large discussion on more-than-human agencies through the installation of lens-based and time-based artworks in indoor and outdoor public spaces, alongside an extensive public program of artist talks, lecture-performances, conferences and events.

More information will be shared in December 2021.

Screen City Biennial (SCB) is dedicated to research and exhibit the expanded moving image in public spaces. It explores the relation between the moving image, sound and architecture and presents artistic formats that seek to expand the borders of the cinematic experience. The exhibition brings together a wide range of works in the fields of video and film, augmented and virtual reality, sound and audiovisual, performance and installations. SCB’s program is enhanced and deepened through a wide range of public events including artist talks, podcasts, film programs, and the publication of the SCB Journal.

SCB is shaped as a mobile biennial, aiming to reach a wider audience, challenging the biennial format, and at leaving immaterial traces in different urban environments. After the first two editions in Stavanger, the upcoming edition will take place as a hybrid event in both Berlin and Oslo, evolving across its urban space and surrounding landscape.
